Golfito is a privileged destination due to its intense terrestrial and aquatic biodiversity, as well as its unique location within Golfo Dulce in the Osa Peninsula and the southern Pacific of Costa Rica. It could even be said that “it is a gulf within another gulf,” which is the reason for its name. Golfito is surrounded by a majestic blanket of calm, crystal-clear waters, a natural pool with little wave action, the perfect habitat for resident dolphins, hammerhead sharks, humpback whales, and hundreds of other marine species.

It is also an ideal place for both national and international tourists to enjoy activities such as kayaking, stand-up paddle surfing, sport fishing, snorkeling, diving, as well as boat tours for whale watching, trips through the Coto River mangroves, or simply visiting incredible and dreamlike beaches like Punta Esquinas and Cativo.

On land, but close to the bay, Golfito offers the chance to explore Piedras Blancas National Park and the Golfito National Wildlife Refuge, where visitors can observe various bird species and hike along trails. Additionally, rural tourism is available at Rancho Toñito, and visitors can visit the Los Chorros Waterfalls, which have four natural “jacuzzis” set in a waterfall drop of more than 20 meters.

From the Cerro Adams viewpoint (500 meters above sea level, located at Cielo Lodge), visitors can enjoy a unique panoramic view of the bay, Isla Grande, the vastness of Golfo Dulce, and even a section of the Osa Peninsula in the distance. After “coming down from the heights,” those interested can take a local “city tour” and stroll through the most emblematic buildings in the Caribbean-Victorian architectural style introduced by the United Fruit Company in the late 1930s, as well as explore the extensive main street, the International Airport, the Bahía Golfito Marina, and the Golfito Free Trade Zone.
