Tortuguero Canals are the second-largest wetland in Costa Rica and are often referred to as the “Amazon of Costa Rica” due to their rich biodiversity and pristine nature. Located in the northern part of Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast, this area can only be accessed by boat or plane, adding to its exclusivity and remoteness.
This destination is the most important sea turtle nesting site in the country, especially between March and October. The charming village of Tortuguero, situated between the canals and the open sea, is the only urban center in the area. Along the canals, you’ll find various hotels, perfect for enjoying the tranquility of the place.
Tortuguero is also a paradise for birdwatchers, with over 400 different species calling it home. It is undoubtedly a unique destination for experiencing nature in its purest form.
